Tri-Wall’s award winning design team have
won yet another Worldstar. The award was in the
transit and protective packaging section for industrial
products. This is the tenth year in a row that Tri-Wall’s
design team have achieved success in this prestigious
competition. |
| The
design this year was for a major supplier of automotive
parts distributing new and refurbished engine blocks
throughout Europe. And with the number of different
engine specifications it was finding the stock control
and storage of individual packs a considerable problem. |
Tri-Wall’s
ingenious new design accommodates three different
engine blocks, weighing up to 40 kgs each, which
are shipped two or three high per pallet. The inner
width flaps of the container are extended and creased
so that they can either lie flat
or fold to form a base buffer dependent on the block
packed. The die-cut base fitting is easy to fold
and locks together securely, and once formed the
cut-outs are profiled to accept the contours of
the engine blocks and stop any movement in the horizontal
plane. It also has a creased side buffer, which
can be folded differently to suit the three engine
specifications. |

The upper inner flaps
of the container are die-cut with fold down tabs to stop fore
and aft movement, whilst the fold under cut-out panels stop
any lateral or vertical movement of the blocks. They also have
die-cut contoured sections where they meet to securely lock
the integral fitting in place. A final inner flap and self-locking
panel complete the pack, add protection and form a flat surface
for multiple stacking in storage and transit. |
| Since its introduction the pack
has reduced storage requirements for packaging materials by
22% and the packing time by 17 %. It has been totally free of
damage and assisted in end-user production efficiency. In fact
the pack has been so well received that the OEM has also adopted
it for their shipments. |
