2. Our Approach to Tax
2.1 Compliance
TWUK is committed to complying with all relevant tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements in the UK. We ensure that our tax compliance, reporting, and payment obligations are met on time and in full. We engage professional advisors to guide us on complex tax matters and to ensure that our group is fully compliant with all applicable tax rules.
2.2 Resources and Expertise
Given the size of our group and the absence of an internal tax department, TWUK relies on external tax advisors to provide the necessary expertise for tax planning, compliance, and reporting. The Finance Director and Group Financial Controller work closely with these advisors to ensure that all tax matters are handled with due care and professionalism.
2.3 Management of Group Tax Affairs
We integrate tax considerations into our broader commercial decisions, ensuring that tax planning aligns with the group’s business objectives. TWUK does not engage in artificial tax arrangements or schemes designed for tax avoidance. Instead, we focus on legitimate tax planning opportunities that support the long-term sustainability of our business, without posing reputational or regulatory risks.
We ensure that all transactions within the group are conducted at arm’s length and comply with relevant UK tax laws and guidelines.
3. Tax Risk
3.1 Identifying and Managing Tax Risk
TWUK recognizes that tax risk can arise due to the complexity of tax regulations, changes in tax laws, and the nature of our business activities. The Finance Director, supported by the Group Financial Controller and external advisors, is responsible for identifying and managing these risks.
We aim to manage tax risk through careful planning and consultation with our professional advisors. Where necessary, we seek advanced clearances or rulings from tax authorities to ensure clarity and minimize potential disputes.
3.2 Risk Management Process
The Finance Director maintains oversight of the group’s tax risks, working closely with advisors to ensure that any potential risks are managed in a timely and efficient manner. The Group Financial Controller assists by maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with tax laws across all operational areas.
4. Transparency and Relationship with Tax Authorities
4.1 Transparency
TWUK is committed to transparency in our tax affairs. We aim to provide clear, accurate, and timely information to stakeholders, including HMRC and other relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with all legal disclosure requirements. However, we balance transparency with commercial confidentiality where necessary.
4.2 Relationship with Tax Authorities
TWUK strives to maintain a positive, open, and cooperative relationship with HMRC. We engage with tax authorities in a professional and transparent manner, ensuring that we comply with all requests for information and resolve any tax queries promptly. In cases of uncertainty or dispute, we aim to achieve resolution through proactive and constructive dialogue.
5. Use of Professional Advisors
TWUK relies on external tax advisors to provide specialist knowledge and ensure compliance with UK tax laws. These advisors help us navigate complex tax regulations and support the group in preparing tax returns, managing risk, and ensuring that all tax obligations are met. All advice received is documented and retained for future reference.
