                       Tri-Wall's Western Globe Health and Safety Group Meeting

Tri-Wall UK recently hosted a Health and Safety (SHE) meeting for the Western Globe, bringing together SHE experts from other countries, including Yamaguchi-San, Liang-san and Keisuke-san.  

The primary focus of the summit was to share the safety statistics, accident reports from all countries, and to conduct Gemba Walk to identify excellent 5S and safety practices on Gemba / shop floor at Chesterfield site  to focus on safety being a priority and to reduce all accidents across all regions. We also arranged a very interactive discussion on how to foster 5S and safety cultures with the plant managers and H&S leaders.

Following this - insights into how implementing 5S methodologies and procedures at our Tri-Wall Chesterfield site has significantly improved staff morale, overall well-being, profitability, and, most importantly, health and safety.

A key highlight of the summit was the discussion around Chesterfield's impressive safety record. Since May 2023, the site has achieved an outstanding zero-accident streak. This remarkable accomplishment is a direct result of the dedication to 5S principles, a robust SHE culture and a consistent presence from the General Manager and the solid team around him.

Showing Leadership in Action

Tri-Wall Limited, as a global manufacturer of Multi material packaging solutions, recognizes the importance of the SHE activities in all regions. We believe that the Safety, health and wellbeing of employees leads to a healthy, happy, safe successful and profitable business. These sessions are key to enabling a common approach and sharing of practice so that all sites may learn from each other and develop their own programmes in the countries and sites.

Embedding a Strong SHE Culture

The summit delved into the crucial aspects of embedding a strong HSE culture within organisations. Participants shared best practices and strategies for fostering a workplace where safety is paramount. Key discussions included:

  • Leadership Commitment: The importance of unwavering leadership support in driving HSE initiatives.
  • Employee Engagement: Empowering employees to actively participate in safety programs and report hazards.
  • Continuous Improvement: The value of regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Communication: Effective communication channels to keep employees informed and engaged.

Maintaining Equipment Safety in Newly Acquired Sites

A significant portion of the summit was dedicated to addressing the challenges of maintaining equipment safety in acquired sites. Experts shared insights on:

  • Thorough Due Diligence: Conducting comprehensive safety assessments before acquisition.
  • Standardisation: Implementing consistent safety standards across all sites.
  • Training and Development: Providing comprehensive training to new employees.
  • Regular Maintenance: Establishing a robust maintenance program to prevent equipment failures.

A Shared Vision

The summit culminated in a Gemba walk at the Tri-Wall Chesterfield site, where participants witnessed firsthand the positive impact of 5S and a strong SHE culture. It was evident that the global Tri-Wall community shares a common vision: to create a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

Words from the Leadership

Yuji Suzuki, Chairman and CEO of the Tri-Wall Group, emphasised the importance of HSE, stating, "SHE is a very important part of our activity within the company." Stephen Ridley, UK Operations Director, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the need to prioritize safety over financial performance. He asserted, "The first questions when you arrive at site should be; 'Are there any Health & Safety Issues? How safe do you feel today?'"  

By sharing knowledge and best practices, the global HSE summit reinforced Tri-Wall's commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace for all and becoming ‘One Tri-Wall.
